🖤 Avantasia Release: Moonglow 🖤

February 25, 2019

❥ My long awaited Moonglow Vinyl

has finally arrived in my Gloomy Mansion ... ❥

* insert footage of Sheena frantically jumping up and down, throwing the "World Of Music"-Package carefully in the air, to catch it again - while internally screaming, because neighbors have already gotten disturbed by Sheena's late-night music session made up of "Fields of the Nephilim", "Garden of Delight" and "Autumn" - so loudly screaming wouldn't be that appropriate for the next few weeks ... *

The first song, which I'm going to present in this blog entry, is the OFFICIAL PRE-RELEASED Masterpiece "Moonglow" (just as the album title):

When I first heard about this pre-release, I immediately added this marvelous title to all my virtual playlists (because I haven't had the possibility to listen to it with my record player, yet) - and I was simply impressed! Candice Night's voice is purely mesmerizing and it's overwhelming to recognize how beautiful her enchanting voice fits in the song "Moonglow" - also the lyrics have been a surprise for me, for being *literally* accurate and reflecting my own current thoughts and impressions ... ☽🖤

❥ Let's begin with my *perhaps*

FAVORITE SONG of Moonglow ... ❥

But just a short disclaimer: Actually I could never chose an absolute favorite one,

because I simply fell in love with all of those gorgeous songs, believe me ... ♡♡♡

  • Heart (my personal favorite masterpiece out of an album made up of masterpieces only)

Of course there does not exist a favorite song, because I simply adore them all equally - BUT "Heart" was a song, which immediately went into my own "heart". And it was even more mesmerizing that this specific song turned out to be the magnificent closing song of the whole "Moonglow" album ... Because I must confess, that I've never ever imagined the final song to be such a true masterpiece - either it's a calming ending song, or it's something not quite as brilliant and addictive as the previous ones, BUT THIS TIME I was fully stunned by this final piece!

As a huge Blind Guardian Fan (perhaps since birth, but I officially started to collect Blind Guardian Vinyls, CDs and Merchandise at the age of 11 ... ) I am even more impressed that Hansi Kürsch with his beyond magical voice, has participated in some songs on this marvelous Moonglow album:

  • Book of Shallows                                                                                                                 This whole song reminds me of a Blind Guardian masterpiece - I simply adore the guitar passages and it's super addictive, as an additional feature ^^ . Once I tuned in to the beginning of this song, it urges me to listen to the full song a multiple times (on and on ...) - what I appreciate, apart from the amazing musical composition, is the fact, that I recently read about Kreator's bandleader Mille Petrozza (who participates in the song "Book of Shallows") is not only a passionate vegan, but also strongly supporting Animal rights Activism (another reason for me to love his involvement - apart from those purely gorgeous guitar sounds throughout the whole song)

  • The Raven Child                                                                                                                   With great probability, this is one of my DEFINITE favorite songs from this whole album - it combines magnificent storytelling with purely mesmerizing soundscapes ... I've never heard such a precious song before, and it immediately arrived at the depths of my music obsessed heart, to never ever be forgotten ... When I first listened to the introductionary part, I got immediately into the phantasmagorical world, which this song uniquely provides - and I perceive the amount of more quiet, deep-think and typical metal passages just as PERFECT (a true "Metal-Opera" masterpiece ❥) But I would never negotiate the impact of Jorn Lande's vocal parts (of course, I - as the incredible Blind Guardian Lover - which I obviously am, tend to forget the other precious Musician's contributions): His vocals sound beyond magical ... and I would never want to imagine this masterpiece without his special and highly unique passages!

❥ Let's introduce the more calm and enchanting songs of the "Moonglow" album ... ❥

  • Lavender    (feat. Bob Catley - lead singer of the British Rock Band "Magnum")                                                       Of course it's not the typical Ballad inspired song - it also has it's exciting passages and therefore does - not at all - count as a "calm" song, but it immediately inspired me to a new Sewing pattern (unbelievable, but it's true ^^), so I decided to write it below this category (to get it some kind of organization, which isn't possible in my Gloomy Sphere) ... What I love about this song are the beyond overwhelming ups and downs, taking the listener to a whole new level of musical storytelling ... In my opinion, it could easily evolve into a magnificent soundtrack, in which the protagonist courageously wins over the ignorance of his enemies in the end ... Purely Magnificent!

I'm not going too far by saying that THIS SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST BALLADIC INSPIRED METAL MASTERPIECES I COULD EVER IMAGINE TO BE CREATED ... ♡

❥ Return to other mesmerizing masterpieces on the Moonglow Album:

Another song, which quickly casted a spell over me, has been ... ❥

  • Requiem for a Dream (featuring Michael Kiske - ❥ HELLOWEEN ❥)

When I first got to know, that there will be an Avantasia song with Michael Kiske's participation in it, I already knew, that there's NO WAY FOR ME TO NOT ADORE IT IMMEDIATELY ...

And it turned out - just as expected .... I'm addicted to this true Power Metal Masterpiece, called "Requiem for a Dream".

It perfectly brings back the spirit of Halloween's performance on the "Pumpkins United" Tour at Wacken 2018, which I - unfortunately - only watched via Streaming devices, instead of actually being there ... but it still was a fascinating experience and THIS NEW SONG totally conveys those Power Metal rhythms and spirits ... ❥🤘

This song counts definitely as a masterpiece of Power Metal and it would have been totally mesmerizing if it had been played alongside with the othegorgeous Helloween songs on their Pumpkins United Tour ♡

  • Ghost in the Moon                                                                                                              (the first song Iistened to after the release, and A HUGE FAVORITE!)

Ghost in the Moon is the title of a purely mesmerizing piece of art! It's something which I could never fully circumscribe with words, not even by trying to make use of poetry or another form or my artistic activity ... You simply have to listen to it and stay in its phantasmagorical sphere until the end of the song - but I'll promise you: Even though this song is actually almost ten minutes long, it's one of the most epic and magical masterpieces I've ever listened to!

Each individual listener dissolves slowly in it's world and gets fascinated by the story of a protagonist, who willingly withdraws himself from societies boundaries and superficialities for the reason of achieving the ultimate personal and creative freedom ...

This might exactly sound like my own principles and that's also a huge reason, why I adore "Ghost in the Moon" so much ! But of course, a great musical range, amazing vocals and beyond marvelous orchestral elements, also led to my adoration of this TRUE MASTERPIECE!

❥ I've already shared the lyrics of "Ghost in the Moon" on some of my social media platforms, because they mean so much to me ...

(so let's share them on my blog, as well ^^) ❥

  • The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn                                                  (so many contributions ... ❥ Ronnie Atkins, Jorn Lande, Eric Martin, Bob Catley, Geoff Tate ❥ )

That song totally stands out from the other songs and definitely deserves a SPECIAL REVIEW!

Not only that it's the song with the most featured contributions of other highly talented musicians (FIVE different ones, excluding Avantasia!), but also the amount of different styles and elements of a great musical range and quality made me fall in love with this song immediately ...

With its unique beginning (which totally differs from the other songs, because of purely electronic elements) and a great vocal range from screaming to calmer passages, this song has become one of my absolute favorites from this whole album, because it's not only a clearly addictive song, but also has ideally fitting lyrics to the general atmosphere, which the music already creates.

❥ Let's continue with another favorite song of mine: ❥

  • Alchemy                                                                                                                                                          (feat. Geoff Tate ... well known for creating progressive Metal Masterpieces with Queensrÿche)

When I first got into the atmospherical beginning of this song, with all its scenically introducing melodies and rhythms, it was soon crystal clear, that I'll fall in love with "Alchemy"...

What I favor most about this song is the dramatical and phantasmagorical composition - It has its ups and downs, leads in a great variety of different solutions and directions, while the lyrics marvelously unfold and take you into a world on its own ...

For those of you, who either love Queensrÿche (just as I always did), are addicted to Geoff Tate's voice in combination with the beyond miraculous vocals of Tobias Sammet, or simply appreciate the alchemical connection between Avantasia's universe and a Progressive Metal masterpiece: Turn on this song and get stunned by its lyrical beauty & musical power immediately!

✩ Haven't I said something about "Starlight", yet ... ? ✩

  • Starlight  (feat. Ronnie Atkins - "Pretty Maids", performed vocals alongside with Tobias Sammet in "Invoke the Machine" from the glorious album "The Mystery of Time" ❥)

Starlight is a song, which I adore just as much as the other ones! But it has its specialties, indeed ♡

Apart from general questions being involved in its lyrics, which also get tangled up in my own thoughts sometimes, I fell in love with both, Ronnie Atkins' and Tobias Sammet's voices in this beyond magical masterpiece.

Melodic guitar transitions turn this song even more in a purely gorgeous piece of art and the two vocals of both musicians blend with each other perfectly

Right before it's final highlight, this song even impresses with a marvelously composed piano passage ...

❥ BUT: Does there also exist a song, which I don't favor as much as the other ones ...? ❥

Actually not! But if I was urged to mention one, it would be "Maniac" (BUZ just for the reason, that I've always disliked the original version) ...

... whereas I totally favor Avantasia's NEW version (I still have to get rid of my final prejudices concerning the original song ...) I'm sure, they'll vanish in some days and I can replace my memories of the "original" version with AVANTASIA'S NEW ONE (because it's so damn good!)

So please memorize as a FINAL MORAL of this blog entry:

The original version has never ever existed ! Only Avantasia's version is the true one ... ^^ (that's way better to go into history, isn't it ...?)
